Accelerating the Green Transition: Industry visions for 2024

At Accelar, we believe in the power of collective action to drive the urgent green transition our world needs. That's why we're kicking off an exciting new campaign for 2024 focused on rallying the industry around five key visions from our experts that will accelerate progress if they can be achieved.

Dubbed ‘Accelar 2024 Visions’, our experts have identified the top priorities to tackle in the coming year on the road to net zero emissions, resilient communities, and a restored natural world. These five visions represent the key areas our experts have identified as crucial to accelerating the green transition in 2024. While broad in scope, each contains specific and actionable goals we believe are achievable through coordinated effort across sectors:

We've seen great public sector investment into green advances throughout 2023. Government-supported schemes such as Landscape Recovery, and new reporting guidance including TNFD disclosures, are now in full effect. However, it's clear that public funding will only cover a fraction of the total finances needed to reach a sustainable global ecosystem. As such, I would love to see private companies of all sizes increase their investment into place-based measures next year, such as retrofit construction, impact reporting, and nature-based solutions - efforts which will increase the nation's climate resilience, support biodiversity, and accelerate our progress towards Net Zero.

“I would love to see all small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the UK are able to access structured net zero business support, including circular economy advice. 99% of businesses in the UK are SMEs.”

Clare Ollerenshaw

For all the various players in nature restoration to come together to work in unison to help deliver enhancement, protection and creation of nature. That means farmers, landowners, businesses, individuals, communities, charities and the public sector to work towards a common aim. No one can do it alone, and we need to understand and communicate the benefits through vehicles such as green finance of making this transition to a world-leading state of nature.

Michael Smith

I would love to see the industry doing everything it can to help accelerate the energy transmission, supporting renewables and importantly supporting the upgrade of the electricity transmission system across the UK.

Charlene Baker

My wish is that as England brings in mandatory biodiversity net gain, we see stakeholders communicating effectively in order to make it successful. From landowners and developers sharing success stories to increased support provided to Local Planning Authorities. I would also like to see the discussion include environmental net gain and local nature recovery strategies to make BNG successful in nature recovery.

Throughout the rest of 2024, we'll be spotlighting industry commitments, investments, and progress towards making our visions a reality. We'll also be reporting back with regular updates on which areas are advancing well versus those still lagging behind.

The coming decade is absolutely critical for putting us on the right track to reverse climate change and heal the planet. There’s no better time than now to join together in accelerating the green transition.

The visions from our experts provide a roadmap - but it’ll be the collective efforts from around the globe that make them a reality.
