Meet the Team: Sustainability Intern, Ned Morris

As our Sustainability Intern Ned draws to the end of his time with Accelar, we took the opportunity to ask him some questions about his experience working with us over the last year.

Can you tell us about your studies to date and what led you to undertaking an internship with Accelar?

I joined Accelar in September 2024 while I was still studying for my undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol. I had just come off the back of a summer working for Magdalen College at the University of Oxford, where I designed and implemented a carbon accounting system to track college emissions. I knew I wanted to continue working in the environmental sector while completing my degree.

As a Geography undergraduate, deciding how to put your degree to use is always a bit of a daunting prospect. The discipline covers such a broad range of topics that it inevitably leaves you feeling as though you know an insufficient amount about an enormous array of things. Unlike many others who study Geography (some of whom express contempt for their ‘useless’ degree and end up as accountants!), I was determined to remain in a role that prioritises environmental outcomes. I was therefore very pleased when the opportunity arose to join Accelar back in September.

You have been involved in lots of different projects and work during your time with us. Can you tell us a bit more about your role and how it has evolved throughout your internship?

I’ve worked on a host of different projects and aspects of the business, from managing BNG Finder to supporting on NEIRF and Landscape Recovery projects. Since graduating in May, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to working with Accelar. This has allowed me to gain exposure to the more high-level and technical aspects of the company’s work, including financial modelling and contributing to client deliverables such as biodiversity quantification tools, nature finance reports and more.

“Working with a tight-knit group of individuals who are genuinely passionate about the environment has been an absolute pleasure.

Despite being a relatively small business, the wealth of knowledge within the team is truly remarkable.”

What have been some of your standout moments or proudest achievements?

Working with a tight-knit group of individuals who are genuinely passionate about the environment has been an absolute pleasure. Despite being a relatively small business, the wealth of knowledge within the team is truly remarkable. Having access to Accelar, not only as a group of colleagues but also as a learning resource, at this early stage in my career has been a huge privilege and has undoubtedly set me up well for future environmental work.

What are you looking to do next in your studies and career?

This September, I will begin a Master’s degree in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance at the University of Oxford, which sadly means I’ll be leaving the team to focus on my studies. I’m looking forward to specialising further and deepening my understanding of the theories and principles that shape our approach to nature recovery and environmental legislation.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the team for a really enjoyable year, I’m truly excited to see what Accelar achieves in the future!
