From Nature Recovery to Climate Resilience: Funding Opportunities to Watch
Over the past few months, the Nature Restoration Fund, 30by30 Delivery Plan and UK Nature Impact Fund have been announced. These large-scale nature finance schemes indicate the growing understanding of the value of natural resources. The UK Nature Impact Fund is not yet available for application but will support high-integrity nature-based solutions seeking to generate income opportunities for landowners and financial returns for institutional investors, as well as social and environmental impacts.
Climate resilience is also becoming a major driver of investment in nature. As climate impacts become more frequent and severe, governments, businesses and investors are recognising that healthy ecosystems are critical infrastructure, creating more opportunities for a wider variety of stakeholders to get involved.
While private markets are expected to play an increasingly important role, grant funding remains essential for developing projects, supporting farmer collaboration, trialling innovative approaches and delivering restoration outcomes that may not yet attract commercial investment.
We have rounded up some of the latest funding opportunities supporting climate resilience, nature recovery and sustainable land management. The current opportunities include grants for lowland peat restoration and wetter farming, large-scale rewilding, sustainable farming practices, farmer collaboration and community-led green space projects, with funding available for farmers, land managers, public bodies, charities, businesses, project partnerships and not-for-profit groups.
The Lowland Peat Water Implementation Grant
For charities, public bodies, land managers or businesses. £36 million available to support projects that facilitate the rewetting of lowland peat, with an aim to build local collaboration and reduce greenhouse has emissions from lowland peat.
Funding available = £36 million total
Deadline = 18 September 2026
The Paludiculture and Wetter Farming Fund
For farmers and land managers working on lowland peat. Projects must tackle the barriers to developing commercially viable paludiculture on lowland peatland, either for human consumption, or for phragmites, typha and sphagnum.
Funding available = £10 million total
Deadline = 21 August 2026
For organisations, or groups of landowners/ project partners, undertaking large-scale rewilding projects – at least 40 hectares of contiguous land or any sized marine project. Must support ambitious ecosystem restoration initiatives that demonstrate innovative approaches to rewilding & align with their rewilding principles.
Funding available = Up to £15,000 per project
Deadline = 5 September 2026
Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI)
For farmers seeking to manage land sustainably. Payments for adopting environmental land management practices that benefit nature while supporting food production and improve productivity.
Funding available = Dependent on the action, max £100,000 p.a.
Deadline = Rolling applications. Window 1 open now; Window 2 opens September 2026.
Aims to enhance knowledge sharing and collaboration, with an aim to utilise collaboration to improve farm profitability, strengthen bargaining power and build long-term resilience.
Funding available = £30 million total
Deadline = 2026
For not-for-profit groups with an annual income of between £10,000 - £1 million, having operated for at least 12 months & operating in communities located in the top 15% of the Index of Multiple Deprivation. The project must be focused on nature recovery and climate action, or improving nature-rich spaces and public access to them. Main activities should focus on supporting marginalised groups.
Funding available = Up to £25,000 per project
Deadline = Window 1: closes 15th July Window 2: 30th September to 21st October
Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund
Open to projects that help to restore and reconnect southern England’s chalk and limestone landscapes. This funding is expected to be scaled up through the 30by30 delivery plan.

Deadline = TBC
Protected Landscapes Partnership funding to create wildlife-rich habitats in National Parks and National Landscapes.
Funding available = Delivered through FiPL, £10 million a year for 3 years
Deadline = Active now
Funding for volunteer-led environmental initiatives and workdays to improve crags across England and Wales.
Funding available = £5k total, given out in grants of £250-£1000
Deadline = 18th September
